Adult Guardianships
When a family member or loved one can no longer make important life decisions, such as healthcare or financial decisions, an adult guardianship may be necessary to protect you and your family member or loved one.
In Illinois, there are three types guardianships: (1) Guardianship of the Person (healthcare decisions, residential decisions, etc.); (2) Guardianship of the Estate (financial decisions); (3) Plenary Guardianship (combines both the Guardianship of the Person and Estate). Beginning the guardianship process in the court system can be complex and emotionally difficult. The guardianship may be contested and family disputes may arise.
